I have an integrated approach to my work.
Initially trained in law, I changed direction and followed my dual passions of creativity and healing. I qualified as a Dramatherapist in 2001, and am also a qualified NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming)Practitioner. Creatively I combine stories, theatre, art, textiles, song, and movement. I have worked in the areas of addiction, mental health, youth work, post-conflict healing, post-natal depression and education. In the past few years my work has gained the additional element of peacebuilding.
My approach is one of partnerships.
All of my work thus far has been with groups. I work directly with organisations both in the voluntary and statutory sector and businesses. Having been a charity director before re-training as a dramatherapist I understand clearly the needs of good project design, implementation, good communication and collation of evidence for funding bodies. I am usually involved in all aspects of projects from design, delivery, through to evaluation. All projects are unique and are responsive to the needs presented at any given moment. Sessions are structured yet flexible.
I am continually inspired by the possibilities offered by creativity to transform.
In 2003 I was asked to work in Kosovo. It was there that I gained a deep interest in conflict, how this affected communities, and how they could heal. During my MA, my research focussed into developing a model of how forgiveness can be used to support victims of armed conflict to support healing and prevent future violence. I have shared my research at two conferences; Corrymeela Conference 2010 in London, and more recently ‘Societies in Transition – Sub-Saharan Africa between Conflict and Reconciliation’ at Jena University, Germany.
My journey continues.
I feel hugely honoured now to have been given the opportunity to go and work in Africa and develop my practice there. I will be working in on a project in Botswana supporting children orphaned due to the HIV crisis using the arts and nature as a healing approach and environment.
Thank you for taking an interest in my work.
